SBEU TO HOLD KEY CONFERENCE

The Sarawak Bank Employees' Union will hold its 14th Triennial Delegates Conference at the Kingwood Hotel in Sibu on 21 & 22nd September 2002. The Opening ceremony will be held on 21st September 2002 at 2.00 PM. A renowned advocate and Human resource practitioner from Kuala Lumpur will present a keynote lecture during the opening ceremony. The lecture will be on Security of Employment in the Banking Industry.
The TDC is the supreme decision making body of the Union. More than 60 delegates and officials representing all 3000 members in 160 Banks & Finance Companies branches through out Sarawak will be attending the conference. They will decide the direction that SBEU will take amidst growing uncertainty on the Banking Industry and concerns in the restructuring and consolidation of the Banks & Finance Companies.
The Conference will also announce the results of the election of principal office bearers of the Union HQ for a three-year term.
Amongst the 6 Resolutions to be debated are the extension of the Employment Act 1955/Amendment of the Sarawak Labour Ordinance, expansion of the scope of representation of SBEU and the closure of Bank Branches in Sarawak.
In conjunction with SBEU all officials and delegates led by President Hadiah Leen will plant trees at Lucky Road Sibu. This is part of SBEU efforts to conserve the environment and to make Sibu a more beautiful town.
